Meet the veterinarians
About Dr. Natalie Gutierrez
I was born and raised in “the magic city” of Miami, where my native tongue of Spanish is more popular than English! Miami's mix of cultures, sunshine, and delicious food scene make the city a great place to live but somewhere I can always celebrate and truly appreciate my Hispanic heritage. I received a Bachelor's in Biology locally from Florida International University then moved to the Cayman Islands in the Caribbean for 3 years to begin my initial vet school studies at St. Matthew's University. Following my studies in the Cayman Islands, I completed my clinical year at Purdue University in Indiana while also finishing an MBA from Davenport University.
After graduating from vet school, I decided to enter general practice. I felt most at home in this area as this was my favorite way to connect with families - being seen as part of their family. I enjoyed celebrating their victories and supporting them when it was needed. Throughout this time, I noticed a newfound fulfillment in geriatric medicine and hospice care, especially as the field continued to offer veterinarians growing options to care for these patients.
As a life-long pet owner I have unfortunately had to say goodbye to a few of my faithful friends. Through my personal and professional encounters, I grew to understand that quality of life is a complex connection of the ability to truly live, and this changed my whole perspective on determining when the right time was to let my own pets go. As their fur mom, I defined quality of life differently for each of my pets and thus their end-of-life care varied. I wholly believe that giving my pets a great life for however long that may be is my purpose and responsibility as their pet parent, and I now extend that responsibility to those families I help as their veterinarian. I welcome the chance to help others see end of life care as a peaceful release from poor quality of life. My knowledge and experience in veterinary medicine has allowed me to gain an understanding of what a pet may be experiencing even though they are unable to speak. I do not want pets to suffer, be in pain, or be scared. I want to help families to relieve their pets of pain and suffering in a dignified manner, with peace and positive memories. We all want our pets to know when it is their time to go that they are surrounded by loved ones and will never know the worsening pain or discomfort of their underlying diseases.
Outside of veterinary medicine, I enjoy working on weekend projects in my home, and spending time with my family and friends at the beach, pool, on the water, or a new restaurant. I absolutely love vacationing and exploring new cities; I am always looking for the next great adventure!

About Dr. Cheryl Garcia
I grew up in beautiful Miami, Florida and developed an interest in medicine from a young age. As a kid I enjoyed researching diseases and how to treat them. I always had pets growing up and soon realized that I could combine my love for animals and medicine, which ultimately led me to pursue a career in veterinary medicine.
I completed my undergraduate studies at Florida International University and received my veterinary degree from Western University of Health Sciences in Southern California. Throughout my college years, I was the primary caretaker for my grandmother who was diagnosed with cancer. Before she passed away, she was in hospice care from the comfort of her home, and I was responsible for much of her care and pain management during this time. While losing my grandmother was one of the most difficult experiences of my life, I gained a new understanding of what end-of-life care should look like— a farewell led with love and dignity.
Before working as a general practice veterinarian, I completed a year-long internship to gain exposure to multiple veterinary specialties, and become a well-rounded veterinarian. I enjoy the beautiful connections I make with my patients and their owners as we work together to provide the best care possible for their pet.
My childhood Chihuahua, Lolita, passed away at 16 years old, and it was my first experience losing a pet in my arms. That experience had a deep impact on me, reinforcing the deep connection of the human-animal bond. In my role at Lap of Love, I hope to honor that bond and bring a feeling of peace and fulfillment to families during a difficult time.
Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with my pets, traveling, dancing, hanging out at the beach, and becoming the best human I can be!
